COMPANY HISTORY
For more than a quarter century, Alias Smith & Jones Pawn, Inc. has proudly served the North Central
Montana community. The company was founded in 1979 by three police officers in Great Falls, MT, to
be used as a sting operation. Not willing to wait for federal money to fund the store, the three men, Mr.
Macek, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Jones, financed the store themselves. Alias Smith & Jones was a show on TV
at the time, so the name was a natural fit.
Over the first six months of the store’s operation, the three men continually checked their received items
against police records of stolen goods. They found nothing coming into the store was stolen. However,
the little shop was doing good business. When the customers were asked why they came to Alias Smith
& Jones Pawn, Inc. they responded that they knew they could trust this store. That is a reputation we
maintain to this very day.
From these humble beginnings Alias Smith & Jones Pawn, Inc. has grown to encompass four stores in
Great Falls and Helena, Montana. The original founders have faded into retirement, but a new generation
has taken the reins and maintained our reputation for fair deals and superior customer service.
